ACTIVITY HOLIDAYS
ACTIVITY HOLIDAYS AT SPRINGHILL, FALMOUTH, ANTIGUA & BARBUDA
Come & enjoy a fun filled week at Springhill. We can offer riding, sailing (both dingy and yacht) hiking, tennis, yoga, and for the less active, or perhaps to combine we also offer painting & cooking classes.
Springhill is an old stone house, built in the classic Caribbean style of wide verandas overlooking beautiful Falmouth Bay and the Springhill valley. The house is filled with antiques and has a very extensive library to suit all tastes and interests. There is a lovely palm fringed pool with an amazing view.
Janie, the owner will welcome you and make sure you are comfortable, and well fed on her good home cooking. She used to cook on yachts in both the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
A typical week would be as follows: Arrive to a welcome rum punch, after being collected at the airport, and after a swim or shower, dinner on the verandah.
DAY 1 –DAY 5: After a continental breakfast (home baked bread, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee or tea) you will be transported to either the Springhill Riding club (5 mins walk away) or the Yacht Club or start your hike.
Later in the morning, you will come back to Springhill for a swim and relax before lunch (perhaps Quiche & salad, or Pasta & salad or similar). After lunch, there would be options of the beach, tennis, sailing, more riding, or just a good book by the pool.
Yoga classes will be held on the verandah by a wonderful Hatha Yoga instructor every week day evening from 5.30 – 7pm including a very relaxing meditation.
There is an honor bar, and dinner will be served at 8pm. (Callaloo soup, roast pork, homemade ginger ice cream is a sample menu) House wine is included.
DAY 6 – a tour of the island, stopping for a picnic and swim on one of Antigua’s many beautiful beaches.
DAY 7 – a day out on a Beneteau 51, sailing to a picnic spot, snorkeling, etc. Then sun soaked and tanned we will take you to the airport.
Of course, we can plan anything you prefer, more activity or less. If you wish to do any of the many tours available on Antigua, we can organize that for you as an alternative as well. They have offered us very good discounts for you, especially in the off season.
Check out Antigua adventures, Stingray City or Paddles Kayacs. A day in Barbuda can be fun as well.

YOGA:
Taught by Katy Sharpe, a Canadian, who has been teaching on Antigua for 33 years. She specializes in Hatha yoga – the original Yoga with slow stretches with deep breathing – makes you feel wonderful, and since you learn how to do it at home, it becomes a lifetime habit. Katy is also a brilliant masseuse, specializing in Sziatsu & Lymphatic drainage. We can also offer deep tissue and Swedish MASSAGE by another specialist who will come to your verandah.
HIKING/WALKING:
Springhill is situated on the track to Rendezvous bay, the most beautiful and unspoilt of Antigua’s beaches, just a 40 minute hike from your base. You can do a longer trek over to Carlisle Bay, or do it in reverse, and arrive home, hot and ready for a swim in our pool. We can also organize hikes from Wallings Dam to Rendezvous, and several others around the island. There are some interesting hikes around Nelson’s Dockyard, and up to Shirley Heights with lots of historic forts and ruins. You will be led by someone who knows the terrain and history well.
For groups of 4 – 6 people the cost would be US$15 pp per hike.
PAINTING CLASSES:
Taught by talented Antiguan artist Gilly Gobinet www.calypsographics.com – the classes will be in drawing and watercolour and will be held either at Springhill or on location in the Nelson’s Dockyard area. If interested in these classes, we ask that you bring your own equipment, as it is very hard to obtain locally.
Price to be announced.
COOKERY CLASSES:
Internationally renowned Alison Camacho will be teaching Caaribbean cookery, with the chance to make your own chutney, and with tips on how to substitute your local produce for ours. The classes would be at her house the other side of the island, and lasts from 10-3 including eating your own cooked lunch.
Price to be announced.
TENNIS & SQUASH:
Courts & classes can be arranged with Temo Sports, a friendly tennis club in Falmouth with top class artificial grass courts.
Since we are a very small business with only three double rooms, we obviously can’t offer all activities at the same time. Riding, Yoga, tennis & dinghy sailing are available all the time. But the painting classes, cooking classes & the more strenuous hikes can only be offered to a group – so if at all interested in any of the latter activities, please let me know, so I can organize dates. Since this is a new business, I need lots of feedback, please. Everything we are offering is tried and tested and has been running for some time, but combining it is new.
We aim to give a family feeling to the holiday.
Having had many of my son’s friends to stay and seeing as how they like to be busy, this seemed like a good idea.
No need to rent a car (unless you want to do Kite surfing, which is about 35 minutes drive to the school) no hidden expenses, just a fun time for a reasonable amount.
Ideally we can take 3 couples, or 5 individuals, but they would have to be friends, as the rooms are in cottages.
We could take family groups as well.
